Safeguarding
Our commitment to safeguarding
All Saints West Ham Parish Church is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. We follow the safeguarding guidance and policies of the Church of England, House of Bishops and the Diocese of Chelmsford, including the national policy Promoting a Safer Church. This means we are committed to:
- Treating everyone with dignity and respect
- Safely recruiting and supporting those who work or volunteer with the church
- Responding promptly and appropriately to safeguarding concerns
- Working with safeguarding professionals and statutory services where necessary
- Creating a culture where people feel able to speak up if something is not right
We also recognise that safeguarding is the responsibility of everyone in our church community.
Our Parish Safeguarding Officer (PSO), Tashanna Egbochue is the first point of contact for safeguarding concerns within the parish. The Parish Safeguarding Officer works with clergy and the diocesan safeguarding team to ensure concerns are handled appropriately and that people receive the support they need.
Raising a Safeguarding Concern
If you’re worried about the safety or wellbeing of a child, young person, or adult who may be at risk, please tell someone. You do not need to be certain that abuse or harm has taken place in order to raise a concern. If something you have seen, heard, or experienced makes you uncomfortable or concerned, it is important that it’s shared.
You can raise a concern by speaking to our Parish Safeguarding Officer, contacting the Diocesan Safeguarding Team, or completing our safeguarding reporting form below.
If someone is in immediate danger or needs urgent medical help, please contact emergency services on 999.
Contact the Diocesan Safeguarding Team
Safeguarding support and advice is also available from the safeguarding team at the Diocese of Chelmsford. If you would prefer to speak to someone outside the parish, you are welcome to contact them directly.
